Freeroll Francais du Quebec on Pokerstars

I thought I would let my fellow Quebecers know about an exclusive private freeroll on Pokerstars just for us. It is not held every day but has been held a few times already. The next one is tonight February 24th at 8 pm est. Registration starts at 7 pm est and runs right through until the start, there may also be late registration available for the first 5 minutes of the tournament. The prize pool is not listed but I have played it before and it has a decent payout structure. It is a turbo tournament with blinds rising every 5 minutes, so the action is fast paced and exciting. Beware though, because in a tournament of this type you will see players that play the any 2 card game, and there will be a lot of all-ins. However it is free and a lot of fun. The password is FRANCAIS...all in caps...and if you do decide to join up, feel free to drop by and say hi, I will be there. Good luck to all on and off the felts.

New Forum!....still in beta.

I have made a discovery of a new forum for poker players that you may want to check out. This site is still in beta mode, but is already turning out to be quite the site. I have only recently joined the site myself and am still in the process of discovering all that the site has to offer....but I am already quite impressed. They hold 2 weekly freerolls, both of which have quite decent prize pools considering it's a fairly new forum. They also have a points system in place, which yields prizes to monthly and yearly leaders. You can also use these points to purchase cash for your poker account. From what I can see this forum is going to explode at any time and you don't want to miss out on it. So if you are interested in checking it out, drop me an email and I will get back to you with all the info you need. Believe me when I say this site is going to be HOT HOT HOT!

Forums and their benefits.

You may have noticed that as well as poker sites I have chosen to promote forums as well. There is a reason for this. Forums can be used as a great tool for beginners to learn strategy for just about any game. Many forums have a variety of experience amongst their members. I have joined quite a few and find it a great way to improve my game as well as meet some great people. Obviously some are better than others and each has it's positives and negatives. The trick is to find the one or ones that are right for you. Take a look around and try some of my recommendations out and if you find or know of one I should include, let me know. Good luck on the felts.....and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Great forum for beginners.

If you are a beginner and want to try your luck at some smaller private freerolls, get some tips for your game, or get some info on poker sites then I have found the place for you! It's called The Rounder's Room. They have regular freerolls, as well as buy-in tournaments. Usually it's a small field of players so even a beginner could make some money here. They are always trying out new sites, so you can experience them as you play for real money with no risk. The forum has mixed levels of players, so you can practice and improve as you go along. Definitely worth checking out...and if you sign up...let them know that OVERTOP69 referred....and feel free to look me up and drop me a message. Good luck on the felts!

It's been a while.

Hi all, it's been a while since my last post and more things have changed. It seems that PartyPoker was actually testing the $150 speed freeroll to find out how well people enjoyed it. They have now made it the standard for their regional freerolls...which has made me quite the happy poker player. They have also changed the timetable for the freerolls to make it easier for everyone to take part, they still have the same amount, but at different times now so you can take part in all of them if you don't like playing 2 at once.
Doyle's Room has undergone some software changes, that make the lobby a little more user friendly, as well as giving the site a much more appealing look.
As for Pokerstars...well they are pretty much the same. With great freerolls for Canadian and American players, as well as many other nationalities. The CFL $1000000 tournaments are still going on there and will until November for any Canadians that are interested. Pokerstars is also the only site to have low buy-in tables and tournaments, tables at 2-4c blinds...and tourneys at 10c buy-in and up.
One more note of interest is on Full Tilt....The "Poker After Dark" freeroll sit'n'gos are back! So if you want to try to win a spot on tv...here's your chance.
I haven't been extremely lucky lately, but I have made some money(see text box on left), and am hoping that it continues. Good luck to all and see you on the felt!

It's been a few....

Hi folks. It's been a few days since my last update and a few things have changed. It seems that PartyPoker is not sure whether or not to keep the speed freerolls...they're gone again.....oh well. For good news I almost made the final table last night in PartyPoker's Canadian limit hold'em tournament last night....finished in 11th taking $1.62 in prize money. Close but not there yet lol. Pokerstars has a new freeroll promotion going on right now. It's the CFL $1000000 freeroll challenge. You can enter once a week and the top 200 go to round 2 in which you can win a trip to the Grey Cup....count me in lol. Also, Full Tilt has brought back it's Poker After Dark freeroll sit'n'go's in which you have a chance to win a spot on tv.....again, count me in lol. All good things and I hope you can take advantage of as many as possible....I know I'm going to try to. Good luck on the felt!

Can't get enough of a good thing!

Seems PartyPoker came to their senses. It seems they've realised that people can't get enough of a good thing. By this I mean that they brought back the 150$ speed freeroll after having taken it away for a couple of days. With an average of 2000-3500 players per game it really has caught the attention of players. Amateur or beginner the lure is just too great to pass up, especially when it happens 12-15 times daily. Hoooray for PartyPoker waking up and smelling the coffee. Now if only I could do the same and get back on track and win some lol. Good Luck all and see you at the tables

Rakeback and other promotions.

I have been hearing a lot of questions about rakeback lately. What is rakeback? Rakeback is a bonus that some sites give you for having joined their poker site or having joined a site through them. Essentially it comes from the poker site itself, which provides an environment for the games for a small fee....the rake. Some sites then offer incentives to advertisers and clients alike, to get as many people to join their site as possible...the rakeback. How would one qualify? Well, this depends on who offers you the rakeback. The requirements vary but they usually require a fairly high amount of rake to even qualify...which is why most offers are from independant promoters...so shop around. How much can you get? Obviously you will get more if you get it from the site directly, but for the average player you just won't be able to meet the requirements. Most rakeback offers come from promoters who get a percentage of the rake from the poker sites for all the players they refer. Depending on the size of the promoter, the percentage may vary...drastically in some cases....so, again, shop around. For those that are interested in finding out more, or even signing up for an offer....I have found several sites but the best I have seen is PokerSourceOnline. Check them out, read up on it...and find out if you want to sign up....if you are a bigtime player, it is VERY worth it. Good luck on the felt and hope to see you there.

All good things.....

Well, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After the last week or so of being lucky enough to place in the money on a regular basis....the streak is over. The last 2 days I have had terrible luck and terrible cards, but that's poker...it happens to the best. However I have my chin up and am raring to go...no quit in me. Another thing that has come to an end is the speed tourneys that PartyPoker had been running 15 times daily. It seems that it was a promotion to celebrate the longevity and success of the site. Although it's not my favorite, it is one of the most popular...and for that I congratulate them...and here's to many more years....hopefully with many more promotions lol. Well good luck all and see you on the felt!

A good start to my Sunday!

Well my Sunday morning has started off right. I just finished in 260th in the 10c buy-in tournament at Pokerstars...winning 32c. Now if the past week is any indication, I should still have one more win today, I hope lol.
On a bit of a different note, I have found a website that could help out the beginner, intermediate or even most advanced player. The site is called PokerSourceOnline. They have some pretty incredible offers there including free money, rakebacks, and free gifts. As well. like most poker communities, they have some great articles and lessons to learn from. You should check it out, the free money was what caught my eye...and they ARE for real. Try it out and good luck on the tables.

I must be on a streak!

Well I honestly believe that I must be on a streak. Once again yesterday, as seems to be the pattern lately, I finished in the money standings twice in the day. The first one in which I placed was in the 10 cent buy-in tourney on Pokerstars. I have been playing this one on a fairly regular basis and find that it is quite a good way to build up your bankroll. Although there is an entry fee, it seems many still play it like a freeroll, so if you are patient and get a little lucky you should be able to make the money. I also played in the Canadian $200 added freeroll on Pokerstars and finished just in the money this time, taking 445th for 10 cents. At least I'm consistently finishing in the money....who's gonna complain, I know I won't. Good Luck all and hope to see you on the felt.

Doing well at Party Poker!

The last couple of days have been a challenge. I haven't really felt like I was in the mood for tournaments. I just couldn't seem to focus and stay patient, but I still did ok. As I have mentioned before PartyPoker has come out with a new model freeroll that they are playing 15 times a day. I do like the format and have done quite well at it so far, but the last two wins I've had have been in traditional freerolls. They have a daily limit-holdem freeroll with a $250 prize pool each day at 3:45pm est. Now I know that limit holdem can be boring, but this tourney is usually pretty decent. I was in it yesterday and won 12c for my troubles. Party Poker also has regional specific touneys, as many sites are now doing, including canadian freerolls. Last night I was in the canadian limit holdem freeroll and did quite well....taking another 27c for my time. All in all I've been quite lucky at party poker lately....let's hope it keeps up! Good Luck all and see you on the felt.

Made the money....twice in one night....again!

Well I seem to be on one good streak as of late....and boy am I happy about it. Last night was probably one of my best so far in the streak. First I was in the speed nl holdem tourney at PartyPoker that I mentioned yesterday. It's a fairly new format but it is very exciting for any poker enthusiast. My second night taking part in one and second time placing in the money....this time winning 19 cents. That was a great start....but it got better. I was also in the nightly Canadian freeroll on Pokerstars, and had my best finish in it yet. It took 3 1/2 hours but I placed 28th out of 8000 entrants....bringing in 41 cents. I may have been able to do better at the end but after the 3rd break I was pretty tired and my play got a little sloppy, but I cannot complain. I'll say that it is quite a confidence boost to have all these good tournaments lately....even if the winnings are only mere pennies. Let's hope it keeps up...and let's move on to the next goal....the final table. Good Luck all and see you on the felt.

Decent night in tourneys.

So last night was a decent night for me in tourneys. I discovered that PartyPoker, one of the largest poker sites on the net, had created a new speed nl holdem freeroll that runs 15 times a day, so I decided to try it out. I loved it. The fast pace was exciting and it helped that I was doing well throughout the tournament....ending in the top 150...and winning 28 cents. Great start! At the same I was also enrolled in the Railbirds tourney on Full Tilt poker, being the multitasker that I am, getting quite the poker fix going lol. I ended up doing quite well there too taking 122nd for a whopping 26 cents, to finally start a bankroll on Full tilt. All in all a good night. However I was disappointed to find out that the nightly tournament that I played at Doyle's room had been cut down to a $500 freeroll, in other words halved, but it's still one of the better ones available. I hope that your luck is as good as mine has been lately. Good luck on the felt and hope to see you there.

What a good few days I've been having!

Hey there poker enthusiasts! I've been having a great past few days in tournament play. I decided to use some of my winnings from last night to enter a 10c buy-in tournament on Pokerstars this morning, and I'm glad I did. I took down 168th out of 3163 players in the turbo tournament. For this I won 41c...total profit of 31c.....bringing my bankroll up to....can you figure it out.....69c. Too funny lol. A fellow Railbird also did quite well taking down 157th for 44c. WTG lotsilora!! I sure hope that this streak continues...I'm quite enjoying it. Although I have yet to make it to the final table...I am quite proud of my play, having made only a few minor mistakes. I sure hope that this is a sign of things to come and I plan on continuing in my quest to one day be a poker superstar. Good luck on the felt all, and hope to see you on the tables.

Once again did well in Canadian Freeroll

Well I had another good night at the Canadian freeroll on Pokerstars this evening. I had a few lucky breaks and a few bad breaks but overall was very satisfied with my play. I could have possibly made it to the final table if it wasn't for the luck of the draw in my busting hand. I had A-Q and was up against a player who had been bullying the table for a while. He had been caught a few times bluffing and with such a strong hand 1 on 1 I was not going to let this oppurtunity pass. I went all-in...expecting he'd fold....as I had 95k in chips....boy was I wrong. He called...and showed A-J. Great, I thought, I am ahead...flop came ... no help to either, turn...same thing. So here I'm thinking I'm well on my way to 200k and a spot at the final table....then the river......J. Game over. Boy was I disappointed. However that's the game ... and I played it right, but luck prevailed. So now I go on, chin up, and start to build my bankroll....or so I hope lol. Good Luck all and see you on the felt.

Did pretty well in tournament last night!

Since I have been speaking mainly of freerolls lately I thought I would share some of my success with you. Last night I was playing in the 8:30est freeroll at Doyle's room. As I mentioned it is a fast paced, turbo tournament with as many as 12000 entrants. Well last night there was only 7219 and it was a good one for me. I came in 60th place and won $2. Now that may not seem like much for 2 1/2hrs of playing poker, but it's a start. You'd be surprised how many good players start with a bankroll like this and build it up to a much larger amount. This is the second time that I've won $2 on this particular freeroll and the last time I built it up to over $50 before I got drunk one night and blew it lol. The great thing about it is knowing that you are NOT playing with your own money, which for some people is must, so you don't mind so much when you lose it. I am hoping this time to build it up again, and this time I won't blow it like I did before. Anyhow, I just wanted to show what a little luck can do. Good luck on the felt and hope to run into you some day.

Fantastic Freerolls

As you may have noticed I am a poker enthusiast lol. I love to play any chance I get and that it as much as possible. I probably log about 40-50 hours of playing time a week. Not all of it is serious play....in fact, most is with friends at play chip tables.....but I do like to play a serious game when I get the chance. I prefer tournaments over tables just because of the increase in blinds and the skill that is involved in getting as far as possible. Since I don't like using my own money the only way to get a bankroll is through freeroll tournaments. I have found a site that has freerolls for everyone's schedule, with decent players, and rapid action. Doyle's Room, site of master poker player Doyle Brunson. There are $1000 freerolls 3 times daily as well as a variety of others. So far I have found the software to be quite good, the players quite decent(for the most part) and the action incredible. The $1000 freerolls are rapid paced with the blinds going up quite quickly in comparison to most freerolls.....so get ready for some fast action. Check it out and if you like what you see sign up and take advantage of this great poker site. They also have bounty tourneys, bad beat jackpots as well as a poker training school for beginners and avid players alike. I really enjoy this site and hope you will too. Good luck....and have fun!
